Dr. Harvie is originally from New York. He graduated from Yeshiva University with a BA degree in Biochemistry. He attended the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in Kirksville, Missouri where he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (D.O.). Dr. Harvie completed his internship in Dayton, Ohio and began to pursue a residency in Orthopedic Surgery in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Harvie joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict and served as a medical officer and lieutenant commander in Bainbridge, MD, and as the assistant orthopedic surgeon in the Hospital Ship, USS Repose AH16 in Vietnam for one year. After completing three years of military service, Dr. Harvie returned to complete his orthopedic residency at Tufts University and Affiliated Hospitals, Boston, MA.
Dr. Harvie was the first Orthopedic Surgeon to be Certified a member by both the A0AO the osteopathic DO American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and the AAOS, the allopathic MD Board American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons .
In 1973, Dr. Harvie moved with his family to Albuquerq egan working in Orthopedic Consultants, LTD, a premier practice in orthopedic surgery. His specialty has been in the spine and joint care.
Dr. Harvie developed a deep concern for patients with osteoporosis and personal interest in the prevention of fractures by strengthening bones and avoiding bone loss. Encouraged by his patients to lobby for Senior Health Care, he became involved in Gerontology in Orthopedics as well as health and wellness promotion.
